review:
Andrea Bocelli at the Ferguson Center
By PHYLLIS
SPEIDELL
- (excerpts)
-
- NEWPORT NEWS — Andrea
Bocelli packed the Ferguson Center for the Arts on
Thursday night. With tickets priced at $175 to $300,
Bocelli drew fans from as far away as Canada and
Atlanta. The chance to hear the Tuscan tenor perform in
such an intimate setting was too good to miss (...)
- As he clung to an
extended high note, one woman gushed to her companion,
“This is a landmark in your life. You will always
remember this.”
- (...)
- In the past decade,
Bocelli has emerged as an ambassador of serious music,
bringing opera and classic Italian songs to a wider
audience. What Tiger Woods has done for golf, Bocelli
has done for classical music.
- (...)After the third
curtain call, Bocelli stepped forward to tell the
audience, “Tonight I fly back to Italy – but I will
never forget you.”
- Chances are the crowd at
the Ferguson will never forget him.
