HIS HIGHNESS, DEAR GUESTS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE WELCOME MAESTRO ANDREA BOCELLI IN CONCERT" E vai con il primo scrosciante appluaso...

Grazie grazie grazie. A ..buon rendere quando verrete a Dubai!!!!
Ciao
Un abbraccio riconoscente ed affettuoso.

Valeria recalls the concert in Dubai on November 12, 2005

Allow me to say a few words as well about everything that preceded the concert.  And about the organization which is always perfect.

I don’t know if you’ve ever lived in this region . . . but here . . . everything is always done to the highest standards, especially when they want to amaze and astound.

On the first day, the security services requested our passports . . . but this is normal when it’s Sheik Mohammed Al Maktoum, or other members of the family . . . this happened in the past when Queen Rania of Jordan or the Royal family of Denmark, etc. came . . . .   Also, still, I must tell you that when other celebrities and famous people are here, there isn’t such a deployment of bodyguards, security, closed streets, police, etc. . . like they do in Italy !!!!

The “Gate” (as you can see in the photo) is practically an enormous monumental arch which, with the other surrounding buildings, contains the offices of the Dubai International Financial Centre !!!

And very close by are the Emirates Towers, two very beautiful towers with a hotel, offices, residences, fashionable boulevards . . . all in all, VERY BEAUTIFUL.

Between the Gate and the Emirates Towers there are vast gardens and spaces, . . .  in the open areas they had built the stage and auditorium with 1200 seats, with a very beautiful stage design and an enormous revolving platform on the stage for the orchestra, all very well done !!!!  Moreover, they had prepared a spacious reception area where they served (non-alcoholic) cocktails, and there was a sumptuous and exquisite buffet supper !!!!  Meanwhile, in the surrounding gardens, there were some “living scenes” from the heritage village (what I mean is that there were groups of children in traditional white clothes who were dancing to the rhythm of the music of the songs, -  their movements made me think of camels . . .  boys with flowers, censers in which burning spices and perfumes arrived so that the air all around was very fragrant, boys who were offering small moist, perfumed towels for washing the hands, etc.)  Everything was richly lit by thousands of candles.

First of all . . . the National Anthem !!!  Of the Emirates, obviously !!!  Very beautiful !  There were opening and inaugural speeches, while on the big screen they were running images of an artist who was painting scenes typical of the area with watercolors which were dissolving and mixing into old photos of Dubai 30, 40, 50 years ago, of the ancient pearl fishers (the original wealth of this place) to fishermen in a “dhow,” a typical, traditional boat; the President Sheik Zayed who died a year ago; the new President; and the old Ruler of Dubai; and even more . . .  the playing of laser lights, special effects, and waterfalls of light . . .  MARVELOUS, all the while the orchestra was playing the first pieces . . . and fireworks were bursting to the rhythm of the orchestra’s music !!   It really was very, very beautiful !!!!

After all this explosion of music, light, and flames . . . “HIS HIGHNESS, DEAR GUESTS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE WELCOME MAESTRO ANDREA BOCELLI IN  CONCERT.”  And he came out to the first thunderous applause.  There he was  . . . the dream began !!!!

“La Mattinata” by Leoncavallo, “Aranjuez,” “La Serenata” by Tosti, “Non ti scordar di me,” “Santa Lucia,” “O Surdato’nnamurato,” “Torno a Surriento,” and many, many others, interspersed with cries of “Bravissima” and “Bravissimissima.”  The soprano who sang with him and who delighted us with “Vorrei con baciare i tuoi capelli neri,” “le labbra tue e gli occhi tuoi . . . “ and then “Tu che m’hai preso il cuor” . . . and then more and more . . . and we always sang with them, [there was] always a piece by the orchestra between Andrea’s performances (three pieces at a time) and of the soprano (one at a time), always to lots of applause !!!

After “Il Brindisi” . . . at the end of the concert . . . long applause, a very long, superb standing ovation, which “compelled” Andrea to give us the gift of two more songs, the last of which is my favorite:  CON TE PARTIROOOOO....PAESIIII CHE NON HO MAI...VEDUTO E VISSUTO ...CON TEE...CON TE IO SI LI ..."

And we sang too, hugging each other, our eyes bright with tears from emotion and memories . . . And there was very much applause for them and I (you know . . . [I was wearing] a double-breasted [outfit] by Ferré “all studded with precious stones,” jeweled buttons in the button holes),  because I was screaming his name and my husband, one more time, (like he already had many times) was urging me to be calm, because I was only aware of myself . . . because they were all watching me, because it wasn’t okay . . . because . . . oh, my goodness !!!!

As soon as Andrea and the very wonderful soprano Patricia Orciani went by, I and my husband (really first him and then me . . .  he who until this moment was trying to keep an eye on me - then he went wild . . . ) . . . we were there directly behind the stage near the dressing rooms, followed by the dearest friends, the Italian Ambassador and his wife !!!!  We were the only Italians present !!!!  We asked to greet and thank him, and we had a chance to shake his hand (I also hugged him . . . and gave him a kiss !!!)  I thanked him for the invitation (for which my gratitude to all of you on the forum will never end . . . as well as Veronica and Andrea . . . )  I told them hello from all the members of the forum.  I gave many dear greetings to Veronica, who is very beautiful, very kind, and full of life !!!  What more is there to say about him?  His incredible simplicity, his modesty, his humanity . . . and his kindness !!  He even cracked a witty joke with the Ambassador !!!  The Ambassador would like to organize one of his concerts, but this time in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the Emirates.  (He had already tried in the past, but didn’t have any luck  . . . )  We also gave compliments to the soprano, who was about to leave already, and to the conductor of the stupendous orchestra.

Well . . . what more can I say?  IT WAS AN UNFORGETTABLE EVENING !!!!  Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Until the next time when you come to Dubai !!!!

Ciao!

A grateful and affectionate hug,

Valeria
